Day Nine, Via della Quottro Fountaine, Roma Termini

Air Canada Flight 890 from Toronto to Rome on October 9th 2010 was a journey back in time for four humble artists from Owen Sound.

The Eternal City of Rome is a gigantic theatre, where the history of civilization is played out against colossal backdrops of stone and marble, magnificently forged by the master builders and beautifully illuminated by the artists of bygone days

What secrets are contained within these colossal stone superstructures that have survived the ravages of time? If stones could talk, what stories they would tell; stories of greatness as well as suffering; stories of glorious victories and humiliating defeats; stories of life and death, revealing the ever-changing history of this wonderful city.

What are the colossal stones of the Colosseum with its huge amphitheatre and dark subterranean passages and vaults telling us about the weekly slaughter of innocent Christians for the amusement of the Roman aristocracy ?

What is the glorious architecture, with its magnificent awe-inspiring artistic masterpieces, telling us about the triumph of the human spirit ?

When stones talk, and we allow ourselves a flight of fancy to the dark and misty days of emperors, gladiators and slaves, we return from this journey through time, all the richer and better able to cope with the reality of today, which in time will become tomorrow's past.
